Dark Shadows Movie Review Remake of the 1966/1991 TV Series

Detail from Dark Shadows newspaper comic strip...Image via WikipediaI've had the time of my life this week skimming right through the 12 Episodes of the 1991 version of The Dark Shadows series on Hulu. I had watched the original series from 1966, in black and white, and was delighted with this version. But was quite disappointed when it abruptly ended at episode 13, knowing that the original went on for over two thousand episodes!

Well, in searching for full Episode 13, lo and behold, I discover that this summer Johnny Depp will be playing Barnabas Collins (the resident vampire) in yet another remake... full of this era's Super-stars-that-are-and-are-to-be.

It has everything you could possibly want in a "Gothic" Soap: vampires, witches, zombies, time-travel, star-crossed lovers, a psychic medium, possession, the estate overlooking the sea (in constant Maine mist). I just loved it. I can't imagine how a singular movie could do it justice. And Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins? I don't know. I just don't know.

  1. Later: I found this link to a few more full episodes, including "Episode 13", but it doesn't seem to connect seemlessly with the 1991 version of Episode 12. Like Hulu, it's FREE though.

    But not quite as good.
